111 Rocket Regiment is part of the Regiment of Artillery of the Indian Army.
History[edit]
111 Rocket Regiment(GRAD) was raised on 22 Jan 1980 at Anand Parbat (Delhi) by merging 230(I), 233(I) and 234(I) Rocket Batteries which were raised at Devlali during Nov- Dec 1971 under the command of Lt Col AK Mehta. On raising the unit was equipped with 122mm SP MBRL BM-21 Grad. The first firing by the launchers was carried out on 14 Dec 1971 and the Regiment has the singular honour of being the FIRST ROCKET REGIMENT(GRAD) of the Indian Army. Subsequently, after raising these independent Rocket Batteries were renamed as 1111 Rocket Battery, 1112 Rocket Battery, & 1113 rocket Battery respectively. After raising the Regiment has the proud privilege of participating twice in the Delhi Republic Day parade of 1982 & 1983.
