Introduction[edit]

David Calloway Ross, Jr. was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He served in the U.S. Air Force before becoming the President of Ross-Clayton Funeral Home.[1]

President of Ross-Clayton Funeral Home[edit]

David Calloway Ross, Jr. succeeded his father as the President of Ross-Clayton Funeral Home in 1978[2] and served the company and the community for over four decades.[3][4]

Early life and career[edit]

David Calloway Ross, Jr. began life's journey on September 24th, 1948. David's spectacular journey ended in the early morning hours of Wednesday October 14, 2020. Born in St. Louis, MO, the first child and only son of parents Lillie B. Lewis-Ross and David Calloway Ross Sr. As a new bundle of joy, David arrived in Montgomery shortly after birth and remained a lifelong resident. Early days of formal training and education included high school at Laboratory High-Alabama State College. He earned a degree in Business Management from Tuskegee Institute[5] and soon after left for service in the US Air Force which ordered a year's tour in Thailand.[6]

Other personal and professional achievements include Graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science, Atlanta, GA, Certification by The US Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards, Served Two Terms on the Alabama Board of Funeral Service, Member St. John's AME Church, Youth Member Dexter Baptist Church (Baptized by D.r Martin Luther King Jr.), Member Epsilon Nu Delta Mortician's Fraternity, Member Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Member NFD&MA and AFD&MA. David succeeded his father, Calloway Ross Sr. as the corporation's third President in 1978. A third Ross- Generation Funeral Director, David has served the company and the community for more than four decades. David was the ultimate "light of our lives". Always the stabilizing, calming force, the voice of logic and reason. Always one to "do the right thing". His compassionate, giving spirit was second to none.[6]

David's finest role[edit]

David's finest role in his time was the love given his family and the loyalty and commitment he demonstrated in serving and showing genuine concern for his clients and fellow man. Always the trusted, dependable friend. Never too busy for long conversations with "any and all" who cared to exchange! He was admired, highly respected and often served as mentor for many in his industry... a genuine example of a "Funeral Director's- Director." So loved and adored by a deeply devoted and supportive wife and by his loving and caring children and grandson. David was also a trusted, loving force in the lives of his beloved Extended Family, Staff, and Friends.[6]

Personal life[edit]

David Ross Jr. will be forever loved, respected and admired by his grateful, devoted Family, Staff, Colleagues, and countless Friends. Missing him most. is his immediate family: his darling wife Sarah Ann, Sons: Dr. Michael C. Ross, David Ross III; Daughters: Saundra Gail Ross, Dr. Sharon Ann Ross, Grandson: Johnathan David Randall Ross.[6]

Death[edit]

David Calloway Ross, Jr. passed away on October 14, 2020,[7] due to a non-COVID-19 related illness.[8] His funeral services were held on October 16, 2020, with public visitation on October 17, 2020, and the funeral on October 18, 2020.[9]
