Huttonia is the name of an imaginary micronation that declared independence on June 10, 1979, in Tilburg.
Huttonia was founded after years of clashes with housing requirements and building regulations. In concrete terms, it was a self-built hut, inhabited by biologist Henk Kuiper (field biologist) (1951–2014). He wanted to live a frugal life in Huttonia, “freed from the compulsion to consume”. The choice to live simply for environmental reasons led to a lot of appreciation on the one hand, but on the other hand to aggression and intolerance. In the eyes of many,[who?] Kuiper also had to consume normally with everyone. His first hut was burned down, the second demolished by the municipality of Tilburg, the third demolished by the municipality of Goirle (place), the fourth burned down again. Kuiper wrote the book Huttonia about his living adventures.[1] In 2006, Huttonia was available again seen in the television program Showroom (television programme).
