Le Anh Xuan is a businessperson,[1] scientist,[2][3] and has a doctorate in aquaculture from Vietnam. He is also known as "Dr. Shrimp"[4][5][6][7][8][9][10] due to his contributions to the aquaculture industry in general and the breeding of "shrimp" in particular.

In 2018, he was honored as the "Agricultural scientist" by the Central Farmers' Association (Vietnam).[2][11] He was honored in the science and technology enterprise sector for his research on microbial preparations serving the shrimp farming industry.[3]

Biography[edit]

Le Anh Xuan was born on May 19, 1976, in Thanh Hoa.[8] He graduated from the University of Fisheries Vinh – Nha Trang in 1999. After graduation, he worked for a company that traded veterinary medicine for aquatic animals and went to Bac Lieu to distribute microbial products in the Mekong Delta provinces.[12][13][8] In 2004, he founded Truc Anh Company.[1][14]

In 2012, Le Anh Xuan graduated with a master's degree in biotechnology from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology with a thesis titled "Developing a process for clean shrimp farming using microbial products instead of chemicals." The goal was to provide a bacterial strain with antibacterial properties to treat shrimp diseases without using antibiotics.

This achievement was recognized as the first scientific and technological advance in super-intensive farming of whiteleg shrimp with the "Truc Anh Technology" two-phase super-intensive whiteleg shrimp farming process with low water exchange, by the General Department of Fisheries – Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, according to Decision 502/QD-TCTS-KHCN&HTQT dated May 3, 2017.[15]

On December 30, 2020, he successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled "Application of Bacillus sp. bacteria against Vibrio parahaemolyticus in industrial shrimp farming" at Can Tho University. Applying the research from his doctoral thesis, he introduced a product called Kill Para that treats acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease and early mortality syndrome in one-month-old shrimp.[4]

  • Awarded the Lương Đình Của Prize for outstanding young producers in 2011.[6]
  • In 2013, he was awarded a certificate of merit by Bac Lieu Province for outstanding achievements in "Studying and Following Ho Chi Minh's Moral Example".[6]
  • In 2014, he received a certificate of merit as a member of the 5th term of the Bac Lieu City Youth Union Committee for outstanding achievements in youth union and movement work in the 2009–2014 term.[6]
  • Outstanding entrepreneur of the Mekong Delta region in 2014.[6]
  • In 2018, he was honored as the "Agricultural Scientist" by the Central Farmers' Association[2]
