Otabek Umarov (Uzbek: Otabek Umarov, Отабек Умаров) (born May 15, 1984) is an Uzbek civil servant and sports functionary.
Biography[edit]
Father, Muhammadali Akhmadalievich Umarov (1957–2008), worked as deputy head of the construction department of the Tashkent Railway Department. Mat, Guzal Ulmasovna Umarova (born in 1965), raised her child.[1]
Having graduated with honors from the Kokand Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 32 in 2001, he entered the Faculty of Management of the Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry, and in 2009 defended his master's thesis in the same area at the Tashkent State University of Economics. From 2013 to 2015, he studied at the Tashkent Institute's master's program for the design, construction and operation of highways, specializing in "Automotive Industry."[1]
After graduating from the Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry in 2005, Otabek Umarov worked in foreign structures of Uzavtosanoat JSC, rising from manager to deputy general director of UzAvto Odessa LLC, the official dealer of cargo vans and Iveco Daily chassis.[1]
Since January 2017, Otabek Umarov has become an employee, and since January 2018, deputy head of the State Security Service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.[1]
Triathlon[edit]
On March 7, 2019, delegates of the extraordinary reporting and election conference of the Uzbekistan Triathlon Federation elected Otabek Umarov as chairman of the organization.[2][3]
Mixed martial arts[edit]
On November 10, 2019, Otabek Umarov was elected president of the Association of Mixed Martial Arts of Uzbekistan.[4]
On August 14, 2020, Otabek Umarov announced his resignation from the leadership of the Triathlon Federation and the Association of Mixed Martial Arts of Uzbekistan. This initiative of the sports functionary is dictated by changes related to the COVID-19 pandemic.[5]
Olympic Council of Asia[edit]
On December 15, 2020, at a meeting of the executive committee of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in Oman, Otabek Umarov was elected deputy president of this organization.[6][7] For the first time, Uzbekistan received the right to nominate its representative for the post of deputy head of the OCA in connection with the upcoming holding of the Asian Youth Games in the republic.[8]
Brand 7SABER[edit]
The history of the brand dates back to 2019, when Otabek Umarov created, based on world-famous icons symbolizing various sports, a graphic element that unites most of them in outline and resembles the number 7, designed to express the courage and willpower it reflects in numerology. Through the joint efforts of the London Institute of Identity INSTID and the Tashkent agency GRANDPR, the 7SABER brand platform was developed, presented to the public on June 25, 2021.[9][10]
