Chris Nash (born April 12, 1961) is a musician and former actor, best known for his role as Gene Harbrough in Mischief (1985), and The Wraith (1986).[1]

Early life[edit]

Chris Nash was born on 12 April 1961 in Queens, New York.[2] His family moved to Farmington, Connecticut. His mother was a classical pianist, and he has a younger brother. From a young age, Nash had an interest in music. He learnt the violin, before becoming a self-taught guitarist. Nash was originally discovered by John Hammond Sr., but he decided to leave New York. At the age of 15, Nash hitchhiked to Los Angeles, California, on the pursuit of becoming a musician.[2][3]

Career[edit]

As a young musician, Nash had various record deals with EMI, and Geffen Records. He started writing songs for Lorimar Studios, when he got his first job as an actor.[2] Nash was discovered by Mickey Rourke,[4] who suggested that Nash should attend acting classes, alongside Nicolas Cage, Sean Penn, Diane Lane, and Matt Dillon.[2]

In the 1980s, Nash starred in his debut film performance in Mel Damski's Mischief (1985) as Gene Harbrough.[5] Nash was signed to Creative Artists Agency (CAA), and wanted to be cast as villains. He appeared in the TV film Silent Witness (1985),[6] Modern Girls (1986),[7] and The Wraith (1986).[8] Nash missed out on John Hughes' The Breakfast Club (1985), and the role of John Bender instead went to Judd Nelson.[2]

Solo[edit]

After Nash left acting, he created his own publishing company and re-entered the music business. Nash and John Hayes began working together, writing and composing music. They worked for MTV and contributed songs to film soundtracks.[2]

In 2019, Nash released his song "Like Dreamers Do".[9] Nash has a hobby of refurbishing and collecting guitars.[2]

Mercy Jones[edit]

Mercy Jones is a blues rock band. Nash is a vocalist and guitarist, known for his finger-picking and slide guitar techniques. He is joined by vocalist and harmonicist Jenny Zepp,[3] and has had several band line-ups.[2]

Personal life[edit]

Nash was married to Gela Nash-Taylor (wife of John Taylor), and has two children.
