Rick and Morty is a 2023 American comic book ongoing series written by Alex Firer and illustrated by Andrew Dalhouse and Fred Stresing, based on the self-titled television series and franchise by Adult Swim, a revival of the ongoing series by Oni Press, and a stand-alone sequel to Firer's 2021 limited series Rick's New Hat.[5]

The series, published across 12 issues from January 25 to December 27, 2023, was collected as a two-part graphic novel, Rick and Morty: The Space Shake Saga, from December 12, 2023 to July 16, 2024.

The series received a generally positive critical reception.[6][7][8][9][10][11]

Premise[edit]

Using the television series' established premise of alternate timelines, the series is a sequel to Firer's 2021 limited series Rick's New Hat, from which the dark god Nunzumel and King Goldenfold return to menace the Smith family, the series follows Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith as they face off against the Goldenfolds, an army of versions of Morty's math teacher seeking domination across the multiverse while in pursuit of mathematical perfection, and with it endless adventures, with Morty forming a romance with the Goldenfolds' niece, Noelle, as Rick also faces off against tech bro Glug Vronsky.[12] Using the franchise's premise of alternate timelines, the series follows a Rick and Morty of a different dimension (C-129) on the "Central Finite Curve" than the protagonists of the television and previous comic series, from Earth M-16, initially identified as divergent incarnations of Rick C-137 and Morty Prime during the series' first volume.

The seventh issue also includes the backup story "In Eight Hours Morty Smith Will Die!", a time travel story written by Rafer Roberts, illustrated by Suzi Blake, and lettered by Crank!.[13]
