Onvo (Chinese: 乐道; pinyin: Lèdào) is a Chinese manufacturer of Electric cars, based in Shanghai, operating since 2024 . It belongs to the Chinese concern NIO.
History[edit]
In the spring of 2023, the Chinese electric car manufacturer NIO announced plans to expand its portfolio with another two brands with a view to more affordable products better suited to, among others: to the needs of the European market.[1] One of them was to be a brand with the working nickname Alps,[2] which was referred to as such in February 2024 when publishing photos of a camouflaged prototype of the first model of the new branch.[3] In March 2024, NIO secretly included the actual name of the new brand on prototype camouflage, referring to it as Onvo.[4] The inauguration took place in mid-May 2024,[5] when the Onvo website and mobile application were launched for future users, and the branch president was introduced[6] and the first product - mid-size SUV-a L60.[7] Taking as priorities low energy consumption, large maximum range and affordable price in relation to, among others, Tesla Model Y, Onvo identified as a key element to help NIO increase market share and expand its audience.[8]
