Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, commonly known as DMTCL, is a government-owned company responsible for operating Dhaka Metro Rail, a mass rapid transit system in Dhaka and adjoining areas. The company was established on 3 June 2013 under the Companies Act 1994, a law that governs companies in Bangladesh.[1] Out of 5 metro lines planned by the DMTCL, the MRT Line-6 was inaugurated on 28 December 2022 by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.[2]

Mission[edit]

To reduce the traffic congestion by providing a fast, safe, reliable, air-conditioned, time-saving, electricity-driven, environment-friendly and remote-controlled public transport system for Dhaka and its adjoining areas. [3]

Time-bound Action Plan 2030[edit]

Bangladesh Government has undertaken the following Time-bound Action Plan 2030 to establish a state-of-the-art robust Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Network consisting of 6 (Six) Metro Rail routes which will have 104 stations along the total length of 128.741 kilometers line under Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL). The total length of the Metro Rail Network to be implemented by Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited under the Time-bound Action Plan 2030 will be 128.541 kilometers. Out of the total length, 67.069 kilometers will be Elevated and 61.472 kilometers will be underground. Out of the total 103 Stations, 51 will be Elevated and 52 will be Underground. [3]
